"The University of Leuven joined Nobel Biocare Global University Partner Program to introduce implant surgery in the clinical undergraduate dentistry curriculum and to stimulate the use of CAD/CAM generated restorations.
The support of the Global University Partner Program made it possible for us to teach under-graduate students with more implant dentistry in its broadest sense (clinically, preclinically, surgically and prosthetically, besides well based knowledge on technical aspects of the restorative part (scanning, computer design, etc.).
Moreover, in the future, digital implant planning will become important also for the graduate student. We want to be prepared for that.
It also helps the university to motivate patients to be candidates for tooth- and implant-supported restorations, because of the lower fees charged.
The students see implant dentistry as a reality to be used when they graduate. Even when the case might be too difficult, they will think about the indication and refer the patient to the specialist. When the case is well defined they will be able to do the surgery and the prosthetics themselves."
